finished paintings 4.19.2018

In my most recent post about painting, I promised an update when all the paintings were completed. I finished them a few weeks ago, but it’s taken me this long to sign each one and take photos and decide on titles. They’re small, I know, but they’re still good enough to hang on a wall.…

painting update 3.1.2018

My vow to paint more this year is holding true. Earlier this year, I wrote about wanting to paint more in this post. I seem to be able to sit down with my paints once a week, and I don’t think that’s quite enough. But once a week is a start! Here’s where I’m at…

painting again 1.18.2018

Last year, I hardly picked up a paintbrush. I’m not sure why. Perhaps I had ceramics taking over my brain;)¬† This year I vow to put the paintbrush into action again! Ceramics will have to make a little room for painting, because I want to practice both. It’s often a bit daunting for me to…

one last santa fe post 7.20.2017

Just a few more things about Santa Fe. (I LOVED it there!) The Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian¬†in Santa Fe is a great place to visit. Here are a couple of my favorite pieces there. I love the colors and the abstract designs. And here’s a picture of me standing next to a super…

beach art 12.29.2016

My sweetheart and I spent the first two weeks of December on the beach at beautiful Sanibel Island, Florida. Long walks on the ocean shore provided new beach art to view every day. I met the young artists of only a couple of works, both pre-teens. Here are some of my favorites! I took along…

painter of clay 7.21.2016

This is a vase… or a wooden spoon holder… or a paintbrush keeper… that I made at the Adamah workshop a couple months ago.It measures, in inches, 6.5 high by 8 wide by 3 deep. It’s hand built from a slab of clay, and I left the seam of clay, near the left side of…

new painting 6.28.2016

Here’s my latest painting – a painting from a photograph of my love and I taken in the summer of 2012. Acrylic on stretched canvas, it measures 20 inches wide by 16 high. Originally I attempted to freehand draw our faces, but became frustrated with not being able to get the face detail proportions correct.…

painting blue 3.24.2016

Here’s my latest painting. It’s acrylic, with a bit of black marker, on canvas, and measures 10 x 10 inches. I like the grid pattern, and will use that again in future paintings.

painting in progress 2.24.16

Here’s a picture of my current painting-in-progress. I often begin my paintings based on an image, and this is from a black and white photograph of rocks. Once I get into the zen of painting – the now – the flow – it usually becomes more abstracted from the original image. That’s the fun part.

baked 1.18.2016

I started this painting years ago, and mentioned it on this blog about one year ago, and I think I’ve finally finished it. I find calling a painting “finished” a difficult thing. There’s always something I could touch up. Or fix. Or adjust. But at some point, I need to stop fiddling with the piece,…
