watercolor leaves 1.16.2020

Over the past few years, I’ve started to make a list of art goals every January. One of my goals for 2020 is to finish all my paintings that are in progress. I’d like to finish these before I start any new paintings, but that remains to be seen:) Here are three little watercolors I started last fall and finally completed last week. All three are painted on 140 lb cold press watercolor paper.

I think these are leaves from an ash tree. The blue background was created by sprinkling salt over wet paint, then letting the salt dry and scraping it off the paper. 5.5 x 7.5 inches.
This is a maple leaf, painted on a postcard size paper from a watercolor block. Although the paper is the same type as the other two paintings in this post, the paint went on the paper much more smoothly. It seems like the color didn’t soak into the paper as much, giving the painting more vibrance. 4 x 6 inches.
Three maple leaves. And my favorite of these leaf paintings. 5.5 x 7.5 inches

  1. That is an ambitious goal! I usually have at least 20 paintings on-going that need to be finished, I work on them a little at a time, they will get there, eventually! I really love your leaves, I’m always impressed with watercolor, it’s the one style I just can’t grasp!
